Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

October 4, 2011
President Report: (1st Vice President Amanda Fields filling in for Kim Kreh). Thank you all for coming.
Review of September meeting minutes. Motion to approve, motion seconded.
Ice cream social review: Not a huge success this year. Possible reasons - different night than normal, or because paper flyers did not go home and the electronic newsletter also went out late that day.
Kids Stuff - order forms go home on Friday. Kindergarten will receive books, all other students will receive a flyer. If you sell 5 or more books you receive a free one.
Cherrydale pick up dates will be 10-18 and 10-19 from 6-9pm. Volunteers needed!
Skate Night will be October 20 from 6:30 to 8:30pm.
Fall Festival will be on October 28.
Holiday Shop will be on November 18 from 6-8pm. This will be the same night as the book fair and will be held in the cafeteria. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED.
Treasurers Report:
Review of annual budget for approval. Motion to approve budget as written, motion seconded.
We will need a new treasurer for next year!!
Principals Report:
Discussion about redistricting. (You can view the Feasibility Study on the Howard County Public school web page)
Teachers Delegate:
Para-Educators thank the PTA for the breakfast.
Thank you to the PTA for all that you do!
Committee Reports:
Reflections: starts this week and runs through November 15. K-2 and 3-5 are judged separately from each other. Diversity Means…. is the theme. There are three divisions in which students may submit their work for judging ~ Literature, Visual Arts and Photography.
Fundraising - Cherrydale did very well this year. $8,612, so as of right now the profit is $5,266. Online orders can still be processed but students will not receive prizes for those orders.
Summer Activity Books - about 100 students turned in the completion form. Medals will be ordered and distributed.
Membership - as of now only 329 members. Our goal is 500. Membership will remain open until February.
Newsletter - If any changes need to be made please send to Katie ASAP. It will be going out at the end of this week .
After School Programs - Mad Science - will begin on Oct. 20th with a Space theme for 3rd -5th . January will be for 5-2nd.
Family Activities - Holiday Shoppe will be on November 18 from 6-8pm. This will be the same night as the book fair and will be held in the cafeteria. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED.
Skate Night will be October 20 from 6:30 to 8:30pm.
Dads’ Club - having trouble securing a room. Hopefully will start in November. A new chair will be needed for next year.
Fall Festival - October 28th. Ms. Pollitt reports a great day is planned. Desperately need volunteers especially 4th and 5th grade parents. Pumpkin donations are still needed. Each grade will still have a party in their classroom toward the end of the day. There will be a Turkey Trot during recess for the students as well.
Directory - will be emailed this year. Hard copies will only be available by special request (for those who do not have access to email)
Staff Appreciation - Conference dinner will be in November.
Spirit Wear - flyers will be going home soon.
Adopt-A-Teacher: Yearly families have been matched and the monthly are in progress. New Chair needed for next year.
Walk and Talk: in progress. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Box Tops: incentive ends October 19th. Teacher with the most participating students will get a gift card. The money will be used to rent a JumboTron in the spring.
Delegate Report: there is a concern about the school board not having enough diversity. For more information go to www.hcpps.org
