Dad's Club

February 3rd

Dad's Club is today, Friday, Feb. 3 at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria.  This month we will be building pipe cleaner caterpillars for the kids to give as presents or keep as decorations for themselves.  All the necessary supplies will be provided.  It is requested that the children bring a small branch or stick with them to display the caterpillar on.

Attention Parents, Grandparents and anyone who cares about our kids' education:

volunteer opportunity

You're invited to our next PTA meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 7th at 7:00. We'll be discussing next year's PTA Board and Committee Positions.

The PTA is losing several 5th grade and redistricted parents and we have many opportunities for you to get involved. You'd be surprised how little time some of these activities require and yet they mean so much to our students, parents, and staff.

Please plan to join us and let us know how you can help improve our school. We'll explain each of our committees (click on link below) and help match you with an activity that fits your interests, skills, and time.

The more volunteers we have, the easier our work will be! If you'd like more information, or if you want to volunteer, please contact

 Kim Kreh at thekrehs@hotmail.com

or 301-490-1296.

February 29th

Save the date for our Tampico Grill Fundraiser Wednesday, Feb. 29th.

Our fundraiser lasts all day so if you work near Main Street, please consider asking the office to order lunch and support our school. If you mention FRES, we receive 40% of your bill.

The PTA will be taking orders from FRES staff and delivering during all lunch periods. If you can help (all you need to do is drive to Tampico Grill, pick up an order, and deliver it to the school) please contact

Kim Kreh at thekrehs@hotmail.com or 301-490-1296.

Greetings!

Wow! I can't believe February is here already. The year is going by so fast. Your PTA has been working hard this year to plan lots of fun activities for our kids and to raise money to help our wonderful staff.

We're also planning ahead for next year to make sure our programs will continue to benefit our school. At the end of this newsletter is a list of all the activities that are made possible because of our strong PTA and parent involvement. Please take a moment to review the list and consider volunteering for one of these committees. Many of the jobs require very little time, but make a world of difference to our kids and FRES staff. Most jobs can be done from home and all can be shared with another parent. We would love to have some new faces join our team. Please attend our next PTA meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 7th at 7:00 or contact me at thekrehs@hotmail.com or 301-490-1296 for more information.

Sincerely,
Kim Kreh
PTA President

4th Grade Parents Needed!
smiley face help wanted

Help! We need a 4th grade parent!

We've had a long standing tradition where a 4th grade parent coordinates the current 5th grade end-of-year activities so that 5th grade parents can relax and enjoy their child's final year at FRES.

As coordinator, you would enlist volunteers to help decorate and supply food for the 5th grade Congressional Hearing, Closing Ceremony, and Picnic. You'd also assist the 5th grade teachers with ordering 5th Grade and Congressional Hearing T-shirts.

There are plenty of 5th grade parents who are willing to help; we just need someone to oversee the process. Please consider giving your time to help make the 5th grade activities memorable. You will be rewarded next year if we can keep this tradition alive. Contact Kim Kreh at thekrehs@hotmail.com or 301-490-1296 if you can help.

This time the student, class, and staff member with the most boxtops will be rewarded. Please place your boxtops in an envelope or baggie with your name, grade, and teacher's name. The deadline is Friday, Feb. 17th.

Adult Mentors Needed for FRES Students

A-OK (Assist Our Kids) Mentoring-Tutoring, Inc. is currently recruiting adult volunteers to be mentors to FRES students during the school day. Each volunteer will meet with an individual student who can benefit from additional adult attention and encouragement.

A-OK is seeking volunteers who genuinely enjoy interacting with children, have a strong interest in the success of each student, and are willing to commit to one hour/week for one school year.

For more information contact Chaya Kaplan, email aokmentor@gmail.com  or call 410-730-6030.

Thanks to parents, students, and staff who supported Skate Night

and Chuck E. Cheese

We'd like to thank all the parents, students, and staff who supported our recent Skate Night and Chuck E. Cheese fundraisers in January. Skate night raised $335 and Chuck E. Cheese raised $368. This would not have been possible without you! We'll use this money to reimburse our teachers for out-of-pocket expenses and to pay for cultural arts assemblies. THANK YOU!!!
